The tour

The Great Ocean cycle tour to help kids in poverty. Our three day cycling tour begins in Geelong Victoria. The Great Ocean Road is world renown for its dramatic seascapes and beautiful bushland with cascading waterfalls, and stunning rain forest. Ancient trees on one side and on the sea side magnificent surf beaches, high cliffs and incredible rugged coastal scenery and landscapes. The tour caters to the keen weekend cyclists. Riding as a single group of no more than 28 riders with a support van and car protecting the riders.

The total distance covered is 291 km over three days.

 

Commitments and responsibilities

Each cyclist signing up to the Great ocean road cycle tour is responsible for and commits to:

 

  • Raising a minimum of $1,250 with a target of $2,500 which goes directly to the charity chosen (Botswana Orphan project, ADRA or Compassion).
  • Being "ride-fit" (Average 24-30km per hour) via completing the necessary training.
  • Being a team player and willing to help out during the tour.
  • A sign up registration fee of $75 is required with the trip application.

 

 

 

Day 1 Geelong to Apollo Bay (13th Feb 2011) Distance: 124 Kilometres
Stunning views and long sandy beaches.

 

Day 2 Apollo Bay to Port Campbell (14th Feb 2011) Distance: 98 Kilometres
Today we take in mountains and amazing coastline.

 

Day 3 Port Campbell to Warnambool (15th Feb 2011) Distance: 69 Kilometres
A relatively short cycle to Warnambool to catch the train back for lunch time in Melbourne.

 

 

What is included?

1. Accommodation (2 nights).
2. Food. Breakfast and lunch. Lunch on day 3 not included.
3. One way train ticket. Melbourne to Geelong.
4. One way train ticket. Warnambool to Melbourne.
5. Bike repair. A mechanic will be on the trip.
6. A support van which carries your bags and are there to help and offer support during the ride.
7. Great Ocean tour guide.

Is this trip for me?

Absolutely! This trip is a fantastic challenge for anyone wanting to do something amazing for a great cause. There will be lots of like minded people on the trip all looking for the challenge of a lifetime and of course to meet new friends. How fit do I need to be?

We will be cycling as a group so you must be comfortable with group riding. The tour caters to the keen weekend cyclists. Riding as a single group of no more than 28 riders with a support van and car protecting the riders at the rear. You need to be riding on a regular basis and be comfortable cycling in a group. The best way to gain this experience is to ride in a cycle group on a regular basis.

Is there a minimum to be raised?

A minimum of $1,250 needs to be raised to join the trip.

 

What if I don't raise the minimum of $1,250. Can I still go on the trip?

You can either choose to top up your fundraising to reach the miniumum of $1,250 to join the trip or you will forfeit your deposit of $75 and will not be able to join the trip. 25000spins.com
