ADRA UK
Q1 What is the main focus of your charity?
ADRA-UK is a registered UK charity, but we’re also part of the worldwide network of the Adventist Development and Relief Agency. We assist people in Africa, Asia, the UK and elsewhere, whatever their ethnicity or beliefs.
We respond to disasters and work in conflict zones to bring immediate assistance. Mainly, however, we work to create lasting solutions, empowering people to reach their potential. Education, skills training, health instruction, agricultural improvement, small business promotion, community development is all part of what we do in our quest to end poverty. But to deliver hope, we need your help.
Q2 How important are donations to your charity?
Donations are vital to the work that ADRA-UK does. Thousands of people help to raise about £1m each year which allows us to help people in need. Door collections, funruns, cycle trips, sponsored walks, golf tournaments: without these activities and the hard work of our volunteers, ADRA-UK would not be in a position to address the humanitarian issues of the world
Q3 What difference will the following amounts of money make?
Thanks to our work with the European Commission and DFID we can multiply what you raise. On average, for each £1 you raise we can spend £6 in our projects. So, if you raise £600 it is worth £3600 to us! Remember, ADRA-UK’s commitment to 25000spins is that 100% of what you raise will go to projects!
- £600 - pays to produce and broadcast 150 radio programmes to teach farmers new techniques in Ghana, or provide yearly seeds for 1,200 farmers in Zambia
- £900 - replant 20 acres of dessert with trees in Burkina Faso, or provides 9 masonry students with tools to open their own business in Burma
- £1,200 - helps to train 10 volunteer carers who assist disabled children in the UK, or will pay for medical bills for up to 250 children traumatised by the civil war in Nepal
