Chilling – Day 60

Jan 17 2025

Where: Yacht (Paleros) Greece

Distance: 3,500 km

Tunnel Ride

Two days ago I was cycling along the road singing to myself when two other cyclists rode up next to me and startled me.
Both Sebastian and Grant are cycling from the top of Scotland to South Africa. A journey of 25,000 km. It makes my ride look tiny. You can check out their site at http://www.cyclenorthsouth.co.za/

The picture is one of us catching a lift under the ocean. We starting riding into the tunnel but we were stopped by the tunnel guard. We all feared having to take a 150 km detour but he ended up being super friendly and gave us a lift through the tunnel which was great.

That night we all slept on the beach which was nice. A very impressive thunder storm rolled in and reminded me of how small I was.

After a good rest we had a 70 km cycle to get to the sea port where Sebastian and Grant had a connection who was putting them up on a 48 ft yacht for a few days. They invited me to stay with them so I have happily joined them on the boat which has been great. The three of us having been enjoying sharing war stories, swimming and just taking it all in. This Friday I will arrive in Athens. Only 250 km remaining to cycle. Yipeee.

Q1: What have you been doing to fundraise? My friend Celia and I have a strategy to host two fundraising events to raise funds for Tearfund as well as to ask family and friends for direct support. We had our first event early November which was a movie night. We hired out our local cinema and charged guests $28 to see the wonderful new-release He Named me Malala and a drink.

Q1: What have you been doing to fundraise? My approach has been to excite people to consider donating to the ride by offering a prize if they make a donation. Because I felt the request to donate occurs so frequently among my friends and also in the community I wanted to firstly capture their attention with a prize offer before sharing my request and more information about why I am asking for their financial support.

Q1: What have you been doing to fundraise? The first thing I have done this year was to run a raffle at my local parkrun. People’s donations could be made online as per normal, or on the day. Most people donated on the day. I promoted the idea that for every $10 donated, people would receive 3 raffle tickets, or if they donated $5, then once ticket.
